New Davis Cup tie dates
fN.Z. Press Association) SYDNEY.
New dates for the completion in England of the New Zealand v. Australia Davis Cup tennis tie have been proposed bv English officials, the Australian captain (Neale Fraser) said yesterday.
He said that England had ruled out an earlier plan to finish the tie at London on June 20, the day before Wimbledon, but had now put up some alternatives.
“We’ll be discussing these with New Zealand,” he said. “It now looks as if we’ll be able to play in England, but I’ll say no more in the meantime.”
Fraser did confirm that the dates suggested by England were in the JuneJuly period, when all the players will be in England for Wimbledon.
A suggestion to finish the Eastern Zone final at Palm Springs (California) next week had been ruled out, he said.
The players would all be in Palm Springs, but they would have a busy professional tournament there, and it would hav ebeen a jam to fit in the cup tie at the end of the tournament.
