i The two officers are the [United States Ambassador (Mr Herbert Spiro) and United States Consul (Mr William Mithoefer), both residents in neighbouring Cameroon, but also accredited to Equatorial Guinea. The State Department spokesman, Mr Robert Funseth, said that Mr Spiro and Mr Mithoefer spent five days |in Equatorial Guinea earlier phis month and that they [were accorded a warm reiception, but at the conclusion of' their visit, Mr iFunseth said, Equatorial [Guinea’s acting head of protocol handed them a fivepage letter casting unwarranted and insulting slurs on both.
