Stolen TV sets

Sir, — The problem of thefts of TV sets is causing great concern to police and householders who have a colour set. The problem would not be so acute, if, say 20 years ago, some politician or other genius had thought of the following. When it was evident that TV sets were to become so numerous, and such an easy target for thieves each set from the very first one, black and white, and then colour should have had an aluminium number plate and been registered like cars and rifles etc. It could be processed by the Post Office, and woe betide anyone who could not produce his ownership card to correspond with the registration number. It is not too late yet. — Yours, etc., P. L. BASHFORD. January 9, 1976.
