Situation: A moist northerly airstream covers New Zealand. A cold front advancing over the Tasman Sea is expected to move on to the south of the South Island this morning, and reach the south-west of the North Island tonight. It is followed by cool south or south-west winds. Forecasts: Marlborough, Nelson: Fresh north-easterlies on the Kaikoura coast, moderating to fresh northerlies elsewhere; overcast and mild, with periods of rain, the rain mainly light in Marlborough; a change to fresh south-westerlies spreading north later in the day, with
the rain easing to scattered showers; becoming cooler. Buller, Westland: Moderate northerlies at first, with further rain; a change to fresh south-westerlies spreading north during the day, with rain easing to scattered showers; becoming cooler with the wind change. Canterbury: Fresh northerlies; rain in the main ranges, and scattered light falls spreading elsewhere; a change to fresh, cool southerlies during this afternoon, with a period of more widespread rain. Outlook: Southerlies and some showers.
