Big day for Peter

DUNEDIN. The Otago off-spin bowler, Peter Petherick, drew on a cigarette and read a batch of congratulatory telegrams at Carisbrook yesterday and calmly reflected on the greatest day of his cricket career.

His hair still damp from a well-earned shower, Petherick (33) rested contentedly in the pavilion after claiming nine Northern Districts wickets for 93 runs from 35 overs and 10 maidens. He yesterday became the first Otago player this century to take n’»,e wickets in an innings in a first-class match, and only the third in history. Petherick is only the fifteenth bowler in New Zealand history to take nine wickets in an innings. The last was the former New Zealand representative, Bryan Yuile, in the 1965-66 season.
