Californian oranges
Californian-grown oranges will go on sale in Christchurch on January 12, and will retail at 35c a pound (77c a kg). This is 5c a pound more than last year. The new price, which will apply to metropolitan areas only, will be gazetted in the Christchurch area on Januarv 8.
The increase has been caused by devaluation. The oranges went on sale in the Auckland area this week, according to a Press Association report, at 35c a pound. Lemons, which are also allocated. and tangelos, which will be auctioned, are expected, too, in Christchurch 'on January 12.
