Jewel theft front Museum
A ring and another item of jewellery—which the police had not identified last evening—have been stolen from the Canterbury Museum. The jewellery was part of an exhibition in the colonial section of the museum. The police were unable to put a value on the stolen items. They were taken from a display stand in a replica shop of
W. Coates and Company after the thief had prised open a large window.
The theft occurred between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. yesterday, but was not noticed until later in the afternoon.
The ring was a mourning ring of plaited hair set in geld with a cross of seed pearls.
The Christchurch Criminal Investigation Branch is making inquiries.
