Wicket-keeper has best average so far

After three rounds of Shell Cup matches, the Central District’s new wicket-keeper, Les Downes, has the best batting average, a shade ahead of Glenn Turner.

There has been some heavy scoring in the series, and so far 11 players have batting averages of more than 50. David Stead, of Canterbury, who has taken onlyfour wickets in his club matches, heads the bowling

averages. Hedley Howarth, of Auckland, ’ has most wickets — 16. In the lists below, batsmen with a minimum of four innings and averages over 30, and bowlers with at least five wickets, costing under 30 runs each, are included.
