Box 726, Timaru, hereby give notice that we have applied for a lease under the terms of the Marine Farming Act 1971 for the purpose of fanning mussels in an area containing approximately 3.5 hectares of sea-bed located in South-East Bay (in Marlborough Sounds). | The area is rectangular in' ishape and measures 200 x 150 'metres and is situated on the 'eastern side of the bay approximately 2600 metres south of Capsize Point and; 800 metres north of Te Aruhe j Wharf. The longest boundary; runs parallel to shoreline: being approximately 85 ; metres from high water mark! at the south-east corner and! 150 metres from high water mark at the south-west corner. The Inshore boundary of the area is marked by orange buoys placed at intervals of approximately 100 metres bearing the words “Marine Farming Lease Applied For” and the name of the applicant. The method of farming will be by using Longlines up to 200 metres in length attached to buoys at regular Intervals along its length from which are suspended ropes on which the mussels will be cultivated. The end of each line will hei securely anchored and additional buoys will be attached to support the growing mussels as and when the need arises. A plan of the area may be seen at the Havelock Post Office, at the offices of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in Blenheim, Christchurch and Wellington (Head Office) and the Harbourmaster’s Office, Picton. Any person desiring to object to this application should do so, stating fully the grounds on which the objection is made within two months after the date of the first publication of this notice to the Director General ; of Agriculture and Fisheries.
