Rugby series sponsored
(N Z Pre,, Association) WELLINGTON. Dec. 19. Radio New Zealand has agreed to sponsor the new inter-provincial Rugby series to be played next year. Agreement on the sponsorship arrangement was announced today by the chairman of the New Zealand Rugbv Union (Mr Jack Sullivan) and the Direetor-General of Radio New Zealand (Mr James Hartstonge). Mr Hartstonge said that under the terms of the sponsorship agreement he could not say how much was involved.
He added that the sum involved was not 5150.000, but would not be drawn on the precise sum despite reports last week-end that the arrangement embraces about $90,000 worth of radio advertising. He said it was quite proper for the corporation to enter into such an arrangement. “We are a commercial enterprise and we are using our funds to further that,” he said. Althourh the arrangement will give Radio New Zealand exclusive broadcasting rights, this would not affect the televising of games nlaved in the championship series.
