TASMANIA’S SHIELD BID
(N.Z.P..4. StaH Crspdt) SYDNEY. Tasmania is to make another attempt to enter the Sheffield Shield cricket competition in Australia. It hopes to join the competition in the. season after next and will make a formal application to a meeting of the Australian Cricket Board in January. Tasmania last season scored its first match win, beating Victoria, before being eliminated by New Zealand in the semi-finals. Several overseas test players have spent seasons coaching in Tasmania, including Rohan Kanhai, Alan Knott, Jack Hampshire, and Sadiq Mohammed. Tasmania has been captained in recent seasons by the Lancashire professional, Jack Simmons, who has now decided to settle in Hobart.
