Hostages on train set free
(N.Z.P. A. Reuter—Copyright) beilen (The Netherlands), Dec. 14. All six South Moluccan gunmen holding 25 hostages on a hijacked train near Beilen for 13 days surrendered to the police today, a Ministry of Justice spokesman said. A spokesman said all the hostages were all right. In Beilen — 145 kilometres from Amsterdam—where the hostages spent 12 cold nights in captivity, an official spokesman said the terrorists came out of the train without their weapons. They surrendered after four leaders of the South Moluccan community resumed contacts with the gunmen. This followed expressions of concern by Dutch authorities about the effect of sub-freezing weather on the hostages. Mrfny of the captives were elderly. First reports said that after the surrender the hostages on the train tore down newspapers covering the windows and waved to the police. Army vehicles then approached the train.
