N.Z. yachts impress

(N.Z.P.A. Staff Crspat) SYDNEY. New Zealand prospects for the Southern Cross yachting series which begins in Sydney on Wednesday improved with good performances by two team yacht's in a short, off-shore warm-up on Saturday. Tempo (Cliff Johnston) won the race, with Prospect of Ponsonby (Noel Angus) coming fourth, in spite of some of her normal crew being absent. Second place went to the Western Australian team member, Rampage (Peter Packer), with Love and War (Peter Kurts) of the New South Wales team being a close third.

Tempo, after a good start, was strong on ths windward legs, and won by 2min 39sec in fresh southerly conditions which brought winds of up to 30 knots. Line-honours went to the big American ketch WindI ward Passage (Fritz Johnson), which came home six minutes ahead of the Svdney I yacht, Apollo.
