Barmen to stop over liquor cuts
About 250 Christchurch barmen will hold a stop-work meeting at 11 a.m. today to discuss the effect on them of the Imperial Hotel’s liquor price cuts. Mr C. C. McCready, the assistant secretary of the Canterbury branch of the Hotel and Restaurant Workers’ Union, said that the meeting would also “discuss several aspects of the conduct of the Imperial Hotel.” Although he would not' elucidate, Mr McCready said that it went without saying that barmen would be “seriously affected” by a drop in prices. Price cuts in other centres had borne this out. The meeting would decide what action to take, he said.
