Thistoll pair shape well in training

Regal Ration and Europium, runners for the Thistoll stable In the Canterbury Jockey Club's Christmas Handicap on Saturday, stepped lively in training at Riccarton yesterday. The eight-year-old Regal Ration showed youthful zest while running 1600 metres on the outside of the course proper in the hands of the light-w-eight Brent Lee.

He reeled off the opening 800 metres in 48.6 sec and finished in Imin 41sec.

Conditions could have hardlybeen better for the training—a warm, still morning, and fast footing on both the course proper and the plough. Europium had her race rider. Paul Thistoll, up when she galloped the last 800 m on the outside of the course proper in 50.4 sec. She appears to have thrived since the New Zealand Cup meeting, where she went close to winning the Riccarton Handicap. Audaciter. another Christmas Handicap candidate, sped over 1400 m on the plough in Imin 29.6 sec to beat her stablemate Celsius by two lengths in Imin 29.6 sec. the last 800 m in 51.6 sec, the final 600 m in 38.2 sec.

Zebak’s solo 1400 m in Imin 31 sec on the plough was perhaps equally’ meritorious. He will find the class in the Christmas Handicap weaker than it would have been in today’s Avondale Cup, which would have been his assignment had he not been balloted on to the reserve list. Buzzin Along, Horatttis. and Bun Tuck were to have run at

speed from the 1600 metres on the outside of the course proper, but It was a gallop in earnest only for the last 800 m. Buzzin Along found the sharpest sprint and finished two lengths clear in 49sec.

Tlie Blues, favourite for the Peninsula Handicap, was In a gap of two lengths behind his stablemate Just Henry at the end of 800 m but was steadily closing the gap without being bustled. Just Henry’ recorded 50sec. Trinity shaped like an improver for the Bryndwr Handicap on Saturday when he hurried over 600 m on the plough In 35sec.
