Advisers in mothercraft

Nine baby food companies! from the United States,' Japan and Europe have announced that they will! employ specially trained! mothercraft personnel to advise mothers on when and how to use their products. The personnel will include professional nurses, nutritionists and midwives or non-professional staff trained in the science of jnfant nutrition. The workers will be identified as employees of the companies, the manufactures said.
The mothercraft personnel will not discourage breast feeding. A code of ethics and professional standards for advertising baby food substitutes has been published by the producers. The nine companies are members of the International Council of Infant Food Industries (1.D.1.F.1.), which (was founded on November (20. Its creation coincided with I a public debate involving the ! Swiss multinational food (giant Nestle, which a Swiss development group has accused of contributing to inI fant mortality in the Third i World by sales tactics that ! encouraged women to abandon breast-feeding.
