Flight of the honey bee
Sir, — Where have all the honey bees gone? As a child in the 1920 s and 1930 s I can remember gardens a mass of bees busy collecting pollen and nectar from blooming flowers. Now I have a resident nest of bumble or humble bees at the bottom of my garden but very few visiting honey bees. Could Rachel Carson’s theory (explained in her book “Silent Spring”) also apply to New Zealand? — Yours, etc., ROSIE WITTY. December 9, 1975.
