R. J. Skelton injured
(-V.Z, Press Association) | AUCKLAND R. J. Skelton will be out of ’ paction for several yveeks as a result of injuries he received when his mount. Stipe, fell- in the Howick Handicap at Ellerslie on Saturday. Skelton, the leader in the national jockeys’ premiership, broke a small bone in his right forearm and suffered a bruised kidney. The arm is in plaster. Skelton said yesterday that he would be unable to resume riding until October 25 at the earliest. He had a full book for the Waipukurau meeting tomorrow and at Matamata on Wednesday-, and was also engaged to ride Sulieman in the Herbert Poyver Handicap at Caulfield next Saturday. Stipe yvas racing in about sixth -place until he fell. Remona (G. D. Simonson), Jolly Lucky (A. J. Tyveedie) and Surgemaster ( J. F. Grylls) also came doyvn. Simonson was taken to hospital suffering from concussion and Grylls received abrasions to the chest and right thigh.; Tweedie yvas not injured. After a film of the race had! been viewed, an inquiry into the; I incident yvas adjourned until the’ (second day of the meeting on; (Saturday. The Ruler collapsed and died i shortly- after the finish of the ’ Pakuranga Hurdles. It was I found he had suffered an internal haemorrhage. M. R. Campbell, the rider of Show’s Dream, yvinner of the second division of the Musket Stakes, yvas fined S4O for excessive use of the yvhip.
