Under 21s win again
IN Z. Press Association) TAURANGA. The New Zealand under-21 soccer team beat Bay of Plenty 3-0 at Wharepai Domain. Tauranga.
The speed of Michael Glubb. Willy Clark, and Mark McNaughton, especially, gave the New Zealand team control of the game. Paul Meecham. the Bay of Plenty goal-keeper did well to keep the score down. McNaughton, from midfield. put Clark into the clear on the left in the 35th minute and Clark, with a hard leftfooter high into the far corner of the goal from 30 metres, kicked the first goal. McNaughton began the move for the second goal with a midfield kick across to the left wing. Johan Verweij slammed in a hard shot, but it was palmed away by Meechan to the right, only for Derek Selkirk to head in. A couple of minutes remained when Glubb scored the third goal from a good pass from his full-back, Wayne Smith.
Basketball. —The Soviet Union retained its world women’s basketball title here with a 103*70 win over South Korea in the finals of the seventh world championships. The Soviet side led. 57-42. at half-time.
