Official report, prices

Most fleece wools were unchanged on rates ruling at Dun edin on September 11. accord Ing to the official report of the second Christchurch wool sale yesterday. The offering of 22,332 bales included 42 per cent of halfbred and Corriedale fleece wool. 20 per cent of crossbred fleeces, 6 per cent Slerino fleece with the balance made up of oddments. The offering was drawn mainly from Canterbury, with small quantities from Marlborough, Nelson and the West Coast. There was a good selection of well-grown Corriedales and halfbreds which showed better style than usual for this sale.

The clips from the higher country were also better grown and showed less vegetable fault than normal. A small percentage of the woo! was faulted with dust.

The crossbreds were better grown than has been the case for some years at this sale, and were generally long in staple, and showed good colour.

In general the offering reflected the favourable growing conditions, and was one of the better showings for an October gale for some years. Competition was fairly general on all descriptions. The Continent, supported by local mills and Eastern Europe, was the principal buyer, with some support from Japan. Compared with the Dunedin sale on September 11, the following were the trends:— Merino, irregular and slightly, easier; extra fine and fine halfbreds. in sellers’ favour; medium strong and extra strong halfbreds and halfbred woolly hoggets, unchanged: halfbred skirtings. and oddments, in buyers' favour; strong crossbreds, unchanged; crossbred woolly hogget, shorn hogget and secondshear. in buyers’ favour; crossbred skirtings and oddments. 21 per cent cheaper. The Wool Marketing Corporation gave substantial support to the market, especially on fine wools, by bidding on 13,963 bales or 66.61 per cent of the offering, and having 3602 bales or 16.15 per cent sold or passed to it. Prompt date for the sale Is October 20, 1975.

The Christchurch Woolbrokers' Association has added to the market report a guide to growers on supplementary payments. Growers should also refer to the minimum floor price sheet sent out by the Wool Marketing Corporation.
