Kotare Legend in sound trial for Ashburton

A powerful finishing burst from 25m behind the leaders starting the last 400 m landed Kotare Legend into third place in the free-for-all at trials held at Addington Raceway yesterday. His run has brought him further into favour for the Ashburton Flying Stakes on Saturday.

Ako impressive were the runs of Noodlum (fourth), Lunar Chance (fifth) and Brother Eden (sixth). The race was won by' Master Dean, which was slow away. However, Bob Cameron took advantage of the slack pace set by Glentohi to sprint Master Dean round the field and take the lead with 1600 m left. At this stage Lunar Chance was at the tail of the field some 10 lengths away, with Kotare Legend, just in front of him and | Noodlum back with them buried on the inside. The pace did not really i quicken until the home turn, with Master Dean in control all the way and winning well by a length in 3:33 for, the 2600 m. the last 800 m in 59.2, and the final 400 m in; 30. Glentohi, which will resume racing at Forbury Park on Saturday week, did well] to hold on for second, with' Kotare Legend closing rapidly on them without being seriously pushed, to, take third, ahead of Noodlum. w'hich was late working clear in the straight. Noodlum finished in great: style and will not be an outside chance on Saturday; nor will Lunar Chance, which was last into the straight I and finished just behind Noodlum. Lunar Chance was' restrained at the tail of the field, and when pulled out at the straight entrance he unwound that paralysing run which has characterised his racing. He looks in wonderful order for his engagement at Ashburton. Brother Eden, a form runner for the President’s Handicap, did well to finish sixth. He should not be long extending his record.

Edis Nova Edis Nova, which is to! have her first start for the season in the Banks Peninsula Trotting Cup on Satur-j day week, gave a grand display of trotting to return! 3:34.6 for 2600 m in her race. She took 1:2.4 for her final. 800 m and 31 for the final! 400 m. She is coming to hand well for Freeman Holmes and should be in for a most successful season. Metronome did well for a horse in his class to finish a close third, just ahead ofj Bloxon. Hal Good, which has been off the scene since win-! ning the Canterbury Park' Cup last January, and Cee Ar. Kancho. Ad Infinitum, Lesami and Bachelor Bill were impressive in races for slowclass horses. Fallonaze looks ready to make a successful return tc racing in the next few weeks. He beat a small fiek of C 3 and C 5 pacers most convincingly even though he had only a head to span over Long Chance, anothe' to look ready to show forn at short notice. The winner took 3:34.5 fo: * the 2600 m, the last 400 m ii < 30. I

Long Chance was two lengths in front of Imasport, which should show up at Ashburton. Scottish Armbro made ground for fourth, ahead of Tempette and Dalestar, which were both travelling well at the end.
