Policeman dies
In Barcelona, one of two policemen wounded yesterday in a hold-up of a social security centre died today. The attackers, three men and two women armed with four sub-machine-guns and a pistol, got away with 32 million pesetas in a raid that had the hallmarks of an urban guerrilla operation. The Security Council yesterday sidestepped Mexico’s request to suspend Spain’s United Nations membership and invoke economic sanctions against the country in protest against the executions of Basque dissidents. Qualified sources said that the council advised the Mexican delegation that the General Assembly would be a more appropriate forum to raise the human rights issue.
