Moslems hijack ship in Philippines

About 20 armed Moslems hijacked the 3953ton Japanese freighter Suehirb Maru early today in the southern Philippines and demanded Im pesos (about $120,000) for its ransom.
Reports of the incident indicated that the freighter was boarded by the armed men while waiting -to load her cargo of lumber at Malugay Point, Zamboanga Del Sur province, 520 miles south of Manila.
The freighter was later reported “outside at sea.” but its destination was not immediately known. Her 26 crew members, including nine officers and five Filipinos, are believed to be aboard the freighter. They are all reported to be alive and unhurt. A commander named Jikiri reportedly led the armed men, whose affiliations were not immediately known. Jikiri demanded the skipper
head for “a Moro stronghold,” where they wanted to receive the ransom and release the ship, officials in Tokyo quoted a radio message as saying.
The ship, belonging to the Osaka Zosenjo Company, in Osaka, was scheduled to head for Japan, carrying some 4500 cubic metres of Lauan lumber, officials said.
