School bill supported

WELLINGTON
The Private Schools Con-1 ditional Integration Bill,; which provides for State aid] to private schools, and the! setting up of a third type of. school called an integrated] school, was supported in principle today by the Asso-1 ciation of the Heads of the Independent Secondary Schools ,of New Zealand. In submissions presented to the Parliamentary committee studying the bill the association said that it accepted the principle of the ibill but questioned some of the provisions set out in it. Among serious defects mentioned by the association were:—
No guarantee by way of ap-l peal to an independent! judiciary authority in | protection of a school’s: traditional character.
Insufficient control over the] appointment of staff. The Minister of Education' was left with too many! residual powers.
