New rowing president
Mr E. R. Lindstrom, the assistant coach of the national rowing team at the Munich Olympics, is the new president of the Canterbury Rowing Association. Since 1972 the demands of his job have prevented Mr Lindstrom, a life member of the association for many years, devoting so much time to coaching but last season he had the vfery promising Avon novice eight under his wing.
The association also decided; at its annual general meeting in Timaru on Saturday to expel the i Akaroa club for non-payment ofj its affiliation fees.
No reply had been received; to a letter the association wrote to the club six weeks before. The association decided to recommend to the national association at its annual meeting next month that the Sunday afer a New Zealand championship regatta ends should be declared an “official day.”
This follows the abortive championships at Lake Waihola, earlier this year, which were declared a “no contest” because! of the appalling weather. ■;

Cricket.—A former Australian cricket manager and selector. Mr E. A. (Chappie) Dwyer, lr»s died, aged 81. Mr Dwyer was an Australian selector from 1930 to 1952 and managed the Australian team to South Africa in 1949-50.
