Bowls title to Weir

Barrie Weir (Mount Peasant) played consistently to beat Lee Roberts (St Paul's), H-8, In the champion-of-champions Indoor bowls pairs final yesterday.,

He started brilliantly and seemed to have a virtually uni assailable lead when he was ahead, 5-1, after the third end, but Roberts came back well to level the scores at the half-way stage after a single, a two, and a single on successive ends. But Weir went back Into the lead with a line three on the seventh and a single on the eighth and Roberts’s only further scoring effort was a three on the ninth.

Tn the semi-finals, the St Paul’s combination of Roberts and Mrs Bev Morel were too good for Dick Alexander and Leon McLennan (Hornby Working Men’s Club), winning 8-6.
