Studies at Japanese universities
The Ministry of Education in Tokyo is offering scholarships to a limited number of New Zealand graduates and undergraduates to enable them to study in Japan. The scholarships, for grad[uate students to undertake .research at a Japanese university for up to two years, provides for free travel between New Zealand and Japan and a monthly grant of SNZ3SO. Applicants are expected to study subjects in the same, or a related field, to that already studied in New ' Zealand and must also be willing to study Japanese. For undergraduates who (wish to major in the Japanese language two scholarships are available. They are aimed primarily at training Japanese language teachers. Applicants for these scholarships must have completed more than 12 years at school and have University Entrance by March, 1976. For selection they must sit written examinations in English or French, mathematics, history, and the Japanese language. Those who are successful must complete an intensive five-year course of study, and be capable of adjusting to living in Japan.
