Chch old might buy Mercedes
The Christchurch Transport Board may join the Auckland Regional Authority in 1977 in the purchase of Mercedes Benz buses. Details of how many buses will be ordered jointly with the Auckland authority have not yet been worked out, the transport board’s general manager (Mr M. G. Taylor) said yesterday. Earlier this year, the local board decided, in principle, to join with Auckland to obtain vehicles, but a decision on the make of vehicles was delayed. In the meantime, the Christchurch board decided to buy 25 more vehicles next year similar to those now in use. Mercedes Benz will supply all the Auckland Regional Authority’s buses for the next five years. “Now we know what they’re taking, we will be looking at our decision,” Mr Taylor said.
