“All go” at Kawerau
(N.Z Press Association) WELLINGTON. It has been “all systems go” at Kawerau’s paper mill construction job since the Secretary of the Federation of Labour (Mr W. J. Knox) obtained an incentive bonus agreement for Fletcher workers, three weeks ago. Even absentees™, the greatest bugbear besides strikes to progress in building the Tasman Pulp and Paper Company’s third mill, has been reduced to comparative non-existence — from 40 per cent daily at the beginning of August to less than 10 per cent today. Fletcher Construction’s project manager (Mr G. T. Searchfield) said that the work-rate since the agreement was signed had been quite satisfactory. “In fact we have everything going now to meet the September 30 deadline,” he said. “It is going to be tight, but we could make it.”
