Sir, — As a woman watching her investments in 'Southland Frozen Meat and ; New Zealand Refrigerating [shares I am disturbed by many aspects of the present [ power game in this industry. > I have been satisfied with the excellent control of i these companies and with [my returns. We now face a [most cos’ly upheaval caused | by men using their power to acquire and crush if pos[sible. Enormous sums of [shareholders’ money are [being spent on advertising, canvassing, and expensive brochures. The disquiet to the staff of each company is something that most share- ! holders deeply regret. It is ■little consolation to me to 'know that, should the S.F.M. : fail in their take-over bid, all expenses incurred by N.Z.R. in resisting the takeover are recoverable from S.F.M. We should take a second look at the performance of directors and, when voting at annual general meetings, have the courage to act accordingly. — Yours, etc., UNEASY. September 5, 1975.
