Security Service
Sir, — I am surprised that James J. Duncan has been taken in by what he imagines is the logic, of your anonymous anti-S.I.S. correspondent “Civil Liberties.” Thank God the last half-
dozen or so of our Prime Ministers have not shared his gullibility. As to promotion for Brigadier Gilbert, he was, from his Duntroon days, a consistent and outstanding soldier. Had he remained in the Army he would, beyond little doubt, have attained the rank of Lieutenant-General. Does it seem fair that he has been denied promotion because he took on the para-military job of setting up and directing our security service? — Yours, etc., GRAHAM RHIND. August 28, 1975.
