(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. There was good evidence against continual use of aspirin during pregnancy, said the professor of obstetric and gynaecological endocrinology at National Women’s Hospital (Professor G. C. Liggins). He was commenting on a Reuter report that pregnant women who take aspirin regularly are more likely to have a still-born child or a complicated delivery. The report was based on a study by two Australian doctors.

Professor Liggins said the taking of aspirin led to a delay in the onset of labour, thus extending the duration of labour.

“We are generally unhappy at the use of any drugs in any form during pregnancy,” he said. .
