Woman dies in snow
A young woman died when she was engulfed in an avalanche at Temple Basin ski-field about 5 p.m. yesterday. She was LINDA JOHNSTONE, of 113 Clyde Road. Christchurch. The dead woman was one of three persons swept away by the avalanche at the skifield. near Arthur’s Pass. One of the two men with her escaped the avalanche and raised the alarm. The third member of the party, John Edgar, of 20 Kerr-Taylor Avenue. Mount Albert, Auckland, was dug out of loose snow soon after. Because of heavy snow at Arthur’s Pass a police search party from Christchurch was unable to reach Temple Basin, hot 15 men from Greymouth combed ths avalanche area for two hours before dusk. By nightfall, all other persons known to be on the ski-field at the time of the avalanche had been accounted for.
