Computer centre
Sir, — The haphazard invasions of privacy through use of obsolete information, cited by Mr Jeremy Pope in Monday’s issue of “The Press,” are an indictment of the manual system which C reduced them. Computers, y contrast, can be programmed to remove such old material very effectively from files and prevent its doing harm to the individual. The point at issue Is not whether computers should be used in this way. It is how should they be used in the best interests of both society and its citizens. What Mr Pope should should do is watch the organ-grinder. — Yours etc., B.A.M. MOON DIRECTOR, COMPUTER CENTRE, UNIVERSITY OF CANTERBURY August 26, 1975.
