CORNELIUS AMISS

(“The Press” Special Service) TAURANGA.

The Matamata sprinter, Cornelius, ricked a muscle in a hindquarter yesterday and will miss the $9OOO Bardstown Stakes at Avondale on Saturday. Cornelius was being ridden in pacework on the sand by his , trainer, J. A. Gibbs, when the trouble occured. It did not become apparent, though, until he had cooled off.

“it’s not serious,” said Gibbs, “but there’s no chance of his running on Saturday.” He probably will be out for a month.” The loss of Cornelius to the Bardstown Stakes is a blow to the Avondale club, as* his clash with Curly Wave, Fury’s Order and company had promised much.
