Car fraud warning
f.V.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The police have warned; people selling cars, especially! at week-ends, not to hand their car over until the cheque has been cleared. Armed with a stolen cheque book, a man “bought” three cars in the last few weeks — all from people who advertised them for sale at week-ends. Detectives have recovered •two of the cars, The officer in charge of the Auckland fraud squad. Detective Senior-Sergeant B. Kemp, said that if a “buyer” man-, aged to sell the car to someone else there was little chance that the real owner 1 would get his car — or money — back.
