CHEAP OFFER MADE

A $A700,000 offer for 13 Tom The Cheap Shops in Victoria has been made by Beefeater Supermarkets and Action Priced Stores Proprietary, Limited, to the provisional liquidator of Tom The Cheap (Victoria) Proprietary, Limited. The Tom The Cheap shops has debts of $850,660. Beefeater Supermarkets and Action Priced Stores, a South Australian firm, is a subsidiary of F. Fairthorne and Son Proprietary, Ltd, whose principal, Mr F. F. Fairthorne, sold his halfshare in Tom The Cheap (South Australia) Proprietary, Ltd, to Sir Thomas Wardle for sl.7m in March 1974. The Creditors of Tom The Cheap (South Australia) Proprietary, Ltd, appointed an Adelaide accountant, Mr I. B. Gray, special manager of the company’s affairs earlier this year when it was unable to meet debts of $3.9m. The companies owe a total of $13.7m in four states. Price unchanged The Australian Copper Producers’ Association price remains unchanged at $lOOO a ton. The last change was a rise of $2O, from $9BO, on August 22.
