Athletics to Russians
(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) LONDON.
The Soviet Union yesterday crushed Britain in a two-day athletics match at Crystal Palace in London, taking the men’s event by 225 to 181 points, and the women’s by 144 to 114. No records were broken but there were some surprises from the British performers. Berywn Price took the 110 (metre hurdles in a windi assisted 13.655ec, and young Ainsley Bennet cruised home to a creditable 20.855ec in the 200 metres.
The Russians completely dominated the women’s section although sprinter Andrea Lynch scored a notable double by adding the 200 metres, in 23.155ec, to her earlier 100 metre success yesterday.
