MIXED BADMINTON

Canterbury badminton teem* had mixed fortunes in division finals played et the week-end. The division two team was well beaten, 14-2 by Wellington in the national final of its competition, played in Wellington. This completed a hat-trick of successes by Wellington in the grade. However, the two Canterbury teams which went to Invercargill for the division three and division four South Island finals fared better The division three team beat Southland Countrv 14-2. and the juniors of division four beat Southland 10-6. The division three victory extended Canterbury’s long hold on the Kelvinator Cup. and the juniors regained the Woolworths Cup, which Southland held. Results (Canterbury names first):— DIVISION II Men’s singles. — L. Robinson lost to G. Logan, 18-17, 7-15, 6-15; C. Wasley lost to M. Grimmer, 6-15, 5-15;’ B. Williams lost to G. Connor, 1-15, 5-15; E. Kirkland beat R. Field, 5-15, 15-7, 17-14. Women’s singles. — Miss D. Erikson lost to Mrs T. Smith, 11- 9-12. 8-11; Mrs P. Duckmanton lost to Miss S. Golevas, 12- 8-11. 0-11; Mrs R. Erskine lost to Miss C. Humphrey, 4-11, 6-11; Mrs P. Bader lost to Miss W. Connor, 2-11. 6-11.
