Good billiards win to B. Kirkness

iN.Z. Press Association> WELLINGTON. In a fine display at the New Zaeland billiards championships in Wellington last evening, Brian Kirkness (Canterbury) beat R. Barratt (Bay of Plenty) 659-344. Kirkness played consistently well throughout the match, amassing a total 659. with breaks of 79, 61, 65, 50, and 55 unfinished. Les Garw-od (Wellington! caused a surprise in his first appearance at the championships when he beat Dave Meredith (Canterbur.vi. 443-425. Called in as a late replacement for Herb Robinson, the top seed. Garwood fought out a good match with Meredith, and said afterwards that lie had not really expected to win.

Although there were not as many big breaks as on the opening dav, the matches were generally a lot tighter, and once again of a very high standard Dick Flutey (Waikato) was the only player who managed to break 100.
