Press Association) AUCKLAND Randy Stevens, the Americ, heavy.weight boxer, flew horn from Auckland Airport last nigh —but before he left he paid i hotel bill of about $3OO fron money he produced from hit sock. Stevens’s departure ended what has been a disappointing visit to New Zealand- He lost bifight against Young Sekona, suf fered a serious eye injury that may have ended his career, anc was involved In a wrangle ovei his expenses Incurred at the hotel he stayed at. An Auckland solicitor, Mr E. P Leary, said that two bailiffs had approached Stevens at Auckland Airport after a Magistrate'.' Court order requiring Stevens to pay the hotel bill, or appear be fore a Magistrate, had been issued. According to Mr Leary, two bailiffs saw Stevens at the airport and when told of the reason for their presence had produced money from his soek and had paid the money 0wing—5266.99. Mr A. Brownlee, of the South Pacific Boxing Association, said the association had paid Stevens’ normal hotel bill, but, as was the usual practice, had not accepted responsibility for any bills for liauor. guests, or tall calls.
