Temperton may hold Thun out
(“The Press” Special Service) PALMERSTON NORTH. The Awapuni trainer. Eric Temperton, dropped something of a bombshell yesterday when he declared the Hawke’s Bay
Hurdles candidate. Thun, not a certain runner after the horse had worked extremely well in his semi-final trial.
Thun is right at his best but Temperton was not happy with the weighting of the horse in comparison with several others, notably Execute, and El Viento. who failed to pay up. “The northerners were given a kilo more for winning the Great Northern Hurdles and the Campbell Hurdles,” Temperton said. “But my horse was penalised three kilos for winning the Awapuni Hurdles. Thun might still run on Saturday but I will con-1 suit with his owner. Mr John Duncan, before I decide whether he will line up.”
Thun worked on the inside trial with Guess Who. They ran 1600 metres in 1:48. the last 600 in 40see with Thun revelling in his work. He has obviously thrived since winning at Awapuni.
Step In Line showed he will be ripe for Trentham when he ran 1000 metres with On Offer in 1:3 2-5, the last 600 in 38see. Step In Line has derived immense benefit from his race at the Manawatu meeting.
Marebeilo and Marenostro both worked well with Yanuca over 1000 metres, the last 600 in 38sec. Both Marebeilo and Marenostro have trained on and are fit for the second leg at Hastings.
On tlie course proper, which was heavy. Bleu Streak and Brad were in good form running 1400 metres in 1:35.4. the last 60 in 41.4 sec.
Ballv Lucky and Sir Acorn eov. ered 1200 metres in 1:23 with Bally Lucky in front over the last 600 in 41.4 sec. Sunnal took 40sec for 600 metres.
