SMITHFIELD MARKET
Prices hold up well The sudden week-long spell of hot. summer weather had the usual effect of slowing demand for red carcase meats on Smithfield market last week, the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board reports. Prices tended to be maintained at previous levels, but New Zealand lamb continued to receive a favourable inquiry, especially for prime grades, so that firm values were achieved in spite of further competition from domestic lamb because the French market remained closed.
