Trade result improved London market tone
The unexpectedly small United Kingdom trade deficit caused late firmness on the London sharemarket on Friday, but industrials showed net losses for the week.
i Worries about the state of the British economy led to i setbacks in many British (share prices despite Govern'ment moves to restore business confidence. i Government bonds were ; particularly firm on Friday, -but the section was margin ally lower for the week. Australian share prices . were slashed. The main reason for cutback was the ‘weakness of the dollar premium, and a tidying up of accounts at the end of the week, dealers said. I Trading was very quiet.
but jobbers reacted to the weak premium by cutting back in all sectors of the market.
