Tinned jam up 6c
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, June 13
The St George Company, Ltd. has been given approval to increase the prices of its jam, spaghetti, and baked beans to recover the increased cost of sugar. The approval has been given by the Department of Trade and Industry, acting under authority delegated by the Price Tribunal"expressly in respect of sugar. Both the department and the Price Tribunal are satisfied that the company cannot at present absorb this cost, according to a statement. At the retail level, the price increases will generally be 6c or 7c for 14oz tins of jam, and 2c for 16oz tins of spaghetti.
