Gnome stealing " not prank”
The term “gnome stealing” might be a misnomer — it is still theft in the eyes of the law.
If a person was caught removing a gnome from someone’s property, a theft charge could be laid, said the head of the Christchurch police uniform branch (Superintendent J. A. Jamieson) yesterday. He was commenting on recent correspondence in “The Press” stemming from a complaint about the “new student prank” of stealing gnomes from gardens. The police would not regard this as just a prank, Superintendent Jamieson said.
