$16,000 for Goldie
(N.Z. Press Association/ AUCKLAND. A C. F. Goldie painting sold for a record price of $16,000 at the Barrington Gallery on Wednesday. The previous record for a Goldie was $ll,OOO, paid for “Serenity,” last November.
The painting sold today is of Whare-Kauri Tahuna, chief and tohunga of the Ngati-Manawa tribe. It is dated 1938. The Auckland businessman who bought the painting is also interested in buying “Lady Elizabeth Lee,” said to be by Sir Joshua Reynolds. It is priced at $28,000.
