Stewart, of the Cheviot County Council [said it was concerned that 'the firemen would lose their 'interest if the fire brigade ( service was taken over by the Government. Is the [Council worried about the 1 firemen or the fact of losing 'control of the local brigade? As a volunteer fireman for a number of years and seeing the spirit and comradeship in the movement, I think the council need not worry ■ about Government control. The prime mover of the bill ■ (Mr May) was a volunteer fireman himself, and is working and thinking for all : his fellow-firemen.
