The home of the former Prime Minister, Mr Norman Kirk, in Seatoun, Wellington, will be sold by ballot to a landless applicant. The house and property were advertised for sale for the first time on Saturday. The advertisement invited (applications for “an ex- | Ministerial residence at. 30 | Forres Street, Seatoun.” No ! reference was made to its (former occupier.
Prospective buyers will be issued with application forms and with the terms and conditions of sale.
Applicants must be landless except for special circumstances, such as in a case | where a person on transfer has a home in another district on the market. Where there are such special cases, applicants will be interviewed |by officers of the Lands and (Survey Department. The residence will be sold at its Government valuation |of $68,480. This figure in- | eludes chattels valued at $4380. The four-bedroom, twostorey residence has built-in furniture. Other listed chattels include carpets, drapes, light fittings, and a washing machine and drier. A minimum deposit of $19,730 is required and the balance of $48,750 is payable over 30 years at an interest rate of 6 per cent, reducible to 51 per cent for earlier payment.
The 2500 sq. ft house is carpeted throughout and in eludes a spacious lounge, a
drawing room, a dining room, office, and a bathroom’ on both levels. It also has a double garage, workshop area and a brick summer-house.
Application closing date is May 28 and the ballot will be on June 11.
