An alcoholic society

Sir, — Your leading article in Saturday's issue on an alcoholic society sounds well-reasoned, and is deeply thought-provoking. There' is one simple remedy for the deplorable state of affairs disclosed that almost invariably is overlooked. It is not costly — quite the reverse. Let all abstain from taking alcoholic liquors excepting under medical advice. This should save many heartaches, broken homes and marriages, and would free hospital beds for those whose illness is due to misfortune, not swinish self-indulgence or unfortunate encounter with a sot behind a steeringwheel. — Yours, etc..
